2012 Wake County PTA Council Healthy Lifestyles 5K

Wake PTA Council is pleased to announce the 2012 winners of healthy lifestyles grant funding
related to the fifth annual
Wake PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k Run/Walk, held Sunday, November 18, 2012.

The winning PTA units were determined based on participation numbers (registered runners, walkers, and volunteers).  Winning PTA units and the corresponding grant amounts for each unit are as follows:

Grand Prize Winner: Oak Grove Elementary School PTA $675

Elementary Winner: Fuller Elementary School PTA $600

Middle School Winner (two-way tie):  Carnage Middle School PTA and Davis Drive Middle School PTA $300 EACH

High School Winner: SE Raleigh High School PTA $600

Honorable Mention: Lead Mine Elementary PTA $300

Congratulations to all who participated in the event and to all who completed their first 5k!  We hope that you will continue to be active through the winter months and will consider participating in additional physical activity events like this one in the future.

Wake PTA Council is proud to continue the tradition of paying out 100% of the net proceeds of the race event to PTA units based on participation credits (registered runners/walkers and actual volunteers).

Winning PTA unit presidents and the principals at their respective schools will receive a brief email notification during the first week of December (no later than 12/7/2012) about these results and should expect to receive a more detailed grantee letter in early January.  Please note that all grant funds must be spent on healthy lifestyle programming at the winning schools by the end of the 2012-2013 school year and that Wake PTA Council will require a report back from the winning schools later this spring.

Happy, Healthy Holidays to all of you from Wake PTA Council

Race begins:  3:30 pm

Packet pick-up:  1:30 – 3:00pm

WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary

What you get for your fee:
chip-timed race, terrific prizes for winners, food and beverages,
race t-shirt (guaranteed for all who register by early bird deadline of Nov. 5th, not guaranteed after that due to ordering timeline),
terrific goody bag, feeling of accomplishment!

Again this year, we are going to award the over-all school with the most registered participants.  Additionally, the single elementary, single middle school and single high school with the most registered participants will win Healthy Lifestyle funding from the Wake PTA Council.

Registered participants can be runners, walkers, or race volunteers.  Volunteers are free, of course, and still get t-shirts and goody bags, as long as they register by November 5th.  Please note that registered volunteers will be contacted by the race director approximately 3 days prior to the actual race to confirm times to report, assigned volunteer duties, etc. Volunteers will register their school of affiliation at the time of their check-in on race day, as volunteers must actually report to the race and work in order for their school of affiliation to receive participation credit.

Early bird registration: $20 until 11/05/12 (includes t-shirt)

Registration on or after 11/06/12 or day of event: $25 (t-shirt not guaranteed)

Race Age Groups: 10 and under, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over
